The Nintendo DS was introduced by Nintendo in 2004 as an alternative to the Gameboy Advance SP. The DS was released on November 21 and December 2 2004 in the US and Japan and then in Europe on March 11 2005. The console was mildly successful.

A redesigned version of the system was released in 2006 and since then DS sales have been remarkable. With a variety of games for kids, adults and hardcore gamers alike, the DS has been set in stone as one of the most popular and successful game consoles of all time.
